Participation of youth in Election
Every election we see the same old faces from the same old parties. It seems like the election time is the time for them to pass the ball from one to the other. If a chance is given, it is quite obvious that the youth is ready to make a great transformation for the country. Votes of the youth have a potential to be enormously powerful in the country. They are the ones who determine the future of the nation.
Why doesn’t youth get a chance?
When it comes to the elections, the youths are brainwashed into giving their vote to one of the political parties that they don’t believe in. Even if they are practically adults, and have every ounce of right to independently decide on whom to vote, they are nearly forced by their parents or older relatives to vote for one of such parties.
Let us be clear that most of the youth doesn’t have proper education, guidance, and training regarding politics. Even if one of them wins the election, they don’t have proper political knowledge. They might have their own vision, mission, goals, and objectives of their particular field, but they don't have any political strategy. Supposedly, if they win the election, they don’t get the desired support from the government, because they will have had arrived to this position by defeating the political parties which constitute the government. There are high chances that if the younger generation wins the election, they will be discouraged, because no matter with how many votes they have won the election, they become winners without supporters from the inside.
In the future, youths will not participate in the election due to such disheartening examples. Such situation will eventually drive the youth out of the country. If no youth remains in the country, the history will repeat itself. The same old people will return to the government, with the same old apparent agenda, and the same old disappointment for the public. How long shall those prehistoric politicians live? And who will they govern if there is no youth left in the country.
We have already understood their pattern of passing the ball from one to the other. In Nepali language there is one slogan “Jun jogi aaye pani kaan nai chireko.” Whichever party wins, we have to face similar circumstances. The public has now become fully aware of this difficulty.
From the view of the public, the role of youths in politics is seen only when the political parties need to show their power in the streets either in form of protest or mass assembly. Following the orders from their political leaders, they are seen in the streets reciting senseless slogans.
These are not the only youth participating in politics. There are other sensible and willing candidates who are now keen to steer the country to the right direction. Let us give them a chance. Let us give them a chance to show us what they can do. And, if they fail for once, let us give them a chance to learn and correct their errors. Let us not focus on any political party’s name, their followers, their power, or their history. Let us vote for change, not for trend.
